If it wasn’t set on June 1st onwards, I could easily read this novel during the Halloween season.īut it also felt such a summer read, that I can’t decide whether it would feel the same to read it during autumn or not. Other than that, I fell in love with Shea Ernshaw’s writing style, her unique voice, the eerie and otherworldly settings she created, as well as the dark enough narration and descriptions. Interesting because I could experience first hand what was happening throughout the whole novel, but at the same time confusing because I use past tenses in my own writing project.Ī couple of nights ago, for instance, being distracted by The Wicked Deep, I used present tenses for almost an entire paragraph! 😅 There is no excuse, I know.

It also uses present tenses, something which was both interesting and confusing. So, The Wicked Deep is written in first-person, apart from those sort of flashback chapters, referring to the Swan sisters and what happened two centuries ago in the city of Sparrow. I started reading this novel right before the beginning of summer, and so I was instantly hooked! It felt right!
